WHAT KIND OF MARKERS CAN I USE ON THE BOARD?

You can use either wet-erase or dry-erase markers.

WET-ERASE MARKERS
Wet-erase markers write darker and more crisp than dry-erase markers, and if your hand passes over the ink, the ink doesn't come off.  Wet-erase markers are a little harder to erase because you need water on a cloth or paper towel, but the ink looks so much better!

Your board will come with a black wet-erase marker.

MULTI-COLORED WET-ERASE MARKERS
Our multi-colored FRAULINER markers are from Germany. They are wet-erase, and will erase completely from the acrylic surface. They will not be quite as vibrant as the chalk ink markers, but they are very reliable and easy to use.  You do not have to shake them or prime them.

CHALK INK MARKERS
Chalk Ink Markers are vibrant and opaque, and they look great on the clear acrylic. They also come in many different colors, including white. They erase completely from the acrylic surface.

There are pros and cons to using chalk ink markers. On the one hand, they are the only colored markers that provide rich, vivid color and show up really well on clear calendars and other boards, unlike colored dry-erase markers which look washed out. They are the only markers that work on our framed chalkboard calendars.

However, chalk ink markers can be finicky, because they contain white pigment. White pigment is more likely to clump and cause problems once in a while. But it is the white pigment that makes the chalk ink markers so vibrant and opaque.

DRY-ERASE MARKERS
Now for our least favorite markers. Dry-erase markers are the easiest to use, but they can leave a residue, and the ink looks faint and grayish. If you want to use dry-erase, we recommend Expo brand.

HOW DO I ERASE THE BOARD?
To erase the wet-erase marker, you wet a paper towel with water, and wipe the ink.  There will still be ink on the board, but it will be wet. Use a dry paper towel to wipe the rest of the ink off. You may need to repeat the process. But in the end, the board will be completely clean.

I like to keep a spray bottle full of water by my board, and spray a paper towel with the spray bottle. We do not recommend spraying directly on the board.

The ink seems to be beading up in some spots
Once in a while the oil from your skin can leave a residue on the board.  f you notice the ink beading up, you can spray a paper towel with windex and wipe the board. This should remove any residue. But normally we recommend using just water to clean the board.

My marker came with a magnet taped to it?
The magnet on the marker allows you to store your marker on the enclosed metal plate. The magnet is taped to the marker so the magnet can be removable. After a while your wet-erase marker will not write as crisp. Simply peel off the tape to remove the magnet, and tape the magnet onto a new marker.
